On Saturday August 2nd, the Renegades of Wrestling returned to Essendon with a night full of twists and turns, in front of a record breaking attendance for the Renegades Arena.
‘Eye of the Storm’ kicked off with the Renegades World Champion, Mitch Waterman, addressing the crowd, and revealing that a serious injury is going to be keeping him out of action for the foreseeable future. Unsure of a return date, Waterman would relinquish the Renegades World Championship, leaving it in the ring and promising he’d be back to fight for it. But he hadn’t even left the ringside area, before Lochy Hendricks strolled to the ring, declaring “The Foregone Conclusion” finished, as he would be cashing in his Renegades Rumble victory prize then and there, before a tournament or rumble could be declared by management to crown a new champion.
Lochy’s gloating would lead to an impromptu challenge from DCT, who has been on commentary the past few events, with a new main event set for later on, with the Renegades World Title on the line!
The first match of the night saw the return of the Air Force Three match, featuring three bright sparks who are better known for their work in the tag team division, as Murdoch, JJ Furno and Kobe Reid faced off. After a lot of innovative moves and reversals from all three, it was JJ Furno who scored the win, but he was immediately attacked by Reid’s Hi~Lyfe tag team partner Will Walker, leading to Ryan Rapid making the save, and a brawl breaking out.
Ari Nicole only made her professional wrestling debut at the end of 2024, but already she has shown incredible promise, but perhaps too much naivety at times, which was certainly the case when she trusted the longest reigning Renegades Women’s Champion Aysha, at Indestructible in June. Looking for vengeance, Nicole took Aysha to the limit in a stellar match, but it would be a victory for First Class at the end of the day. However, elsewhere on the night, vengeance was successfully delivered for Starluxe, as Caity Luxe and Tarlee steam-rolled over The Glow Up, who have been taunting them with their burn book for weeks on end.
The Renegades Tag Team Championships were on the line, as The Bastard Brothers would be defending against Heaven & Hell. But a last minute out for KrackerJak would not put the match in jeapordy, as Brother Gore decided to go it alone against Mitch Connors & Magnus Kolbeck. Ironically, it’d be the unbridled insanity of Gore that saw the match end early via disqualification, after Gore threw Kolbeck through a table. Pandemonium ensued, with a pull-apart brawl that saw the majority of the locker room trying to make the save between these three titans! It feels as though a re-match is iminent for these two teams – will we see it on Friday September 26th at ‘We Choose Violence?’ Stay tuned to our social media channels as we find a resolution!
With so much hostility and unfortunate circumstances surrounding our champions, a ray of light looked to be on the horizon, as Matty Romano announced he’d be returning to the ring next show, following months on the sidelines due to injury. Once again though, it would be JXT who not only interrupted proceedings, but then attacked Romano with the Jaystick after a jealousy-laden tirade against the newcomer. Jake Andrewartha, OLY would make the save, and revealed that he’d be replacing Mitch Waterman in the six man tag team match.
That change to the match certainly assisted the winning team, as Jake Andrewartha OLY, Sam Yannis and Caveman Ugg would go on to defeat the team of JXT, Hector Jones and Tyson Reed, with Chloe St James at ringside. It was JXT who’d receive his comeuppance at the hands of Yannis, Ugg and finally the true National Hero, to the delight of the record breaking crowd in attendance.
Anth Cava’s Open Challenge would continue, with mouthy newcomer Jackson Atlas stepping up for the occasion. Ultimately, the Cava Rack was employed for the win, with Cava’s win streak continuing in 2025, much to the delight of hype man Campbell Crawford at ringside.
And finally, it would be Lochy Hendricks who defeated DCT in the main event, with the Renegades of Wrestling World Championship on the line. It was a hard hitting, gritty back and forth fight, with the Scot looking to dethrone the new champion at several opportunities. However the interference of Hector Jones would prove to be too much, leading to the win for The Aspirationalist.
So… where to from here? We’ll be back in the Renegades Arena on Friday September 26th, as We Choose Violence for the second year in a row, following the overwhelmingly positive response to the first installation of that event last year. Tickets are on sale now, with front row almost completely sold out, and reserved seating selling fast, and you can click here to reserve yours before they’re all gone.
We want to thank everyone who turned out in force and got loud and rowdy as we navigated The Eye of the Storm. The full event will be made available on our YouTube page in the coming weeks, and we’ll see you on Grand Final Eve as the Renegades of Wrestling continue to grow in 2025!
